February 16, 2012

While the European Commission has published the results of its latest Innovation Union Scoreboard 2011, a new report by the Eurydice Network traces the main developments in education in the past decade. The Council of the European Union has adopted a Joint Report on the “Strategic framework for European cooperation in the field of education and training”.

Innovation Union Scoreboard

On 7 February, the European Commission published the latest edition of its Innovation Union Scoreboard. The tool is designed to help monitor the implementation of the Europe 2020 Innovation Union strategy by providing a comparative assessment of the innovation performance of the EU27 Member States. The Commission noted that while Member States have improved their innovation performance, innovation performance growth is slowing down and the EU is not closing the gap with “global innovation leaders US, Japan and South Korea”. The EU still maintains a clear lead over the emerging economies of China, Brazil, India, Russia, and South Africa, it adds, noting that China is improving its performance and is catching up progressively.

The report is a joint publication with Eurostat.
